the reunion committee - pretty much 3 people - are trying to put together a fun night for everyone. we are trying to keep things simple for ourselves while making them still fun. we considered going with a reunion planner. they would have had it a la notte, which is nice, but they would have charged $60 PER PERSON. we thought that $30-35 was reasonable because it helps us pay off the costs we are going to incur - 2 mailings, phone calls, venue, decorations, dinner/desserts/plates/cutlery, and dj - while still being feasible. the venue basically comes with a cash bar. we thought about making it byob but then thought it might get out of control (which might happen anyway!) but that's besides the point.
hopefully you'll still come, even if pizza for $35 seems like a lot. it will be a full evening of good times! find some long lost friend, pool up your cash, and come together...get the cheaper price!
trust me, there's very little in the line of profits. if there is $5 left after all is said and done it will be a miracle. i'll invest it and put it to use towards our 20 year reunion, unless someone REALLY wants to plan a 15 year. we'll see how this goes.
i have never planned something like this before so if you have any real suggestions, i'm open to hear them! thanks for reading.

Thank you for all your work. I am sure this is a lot more work then some people think. Good job!
i think that $35 is reasonable, especially considering the amount of time and effort you are putting into this UNPAID, with the goal of uniting classmates. i appreciate the efforts you have made to consider price.
i think that the comment made about $35 being too much and wondering where the profits were going was not accurate, i know that there are no profits. please don't think that is how everyone feels, we really appreciate your efforts in putting this together. it's A LOT of work, and thank you so much for doing it.
look at this webpage! consider the costs of food, a dj, cutlery, plates, stamps, etc. that kristen mentioned in her post. there is A LOT to consider for an event like this and then add to that the stress of upfront deposits and the amount of time these three people have spent on this so far and will continue to until the night of the event. $35 sounds like a great deal to me. : )
I apologize if I hurt anyone's feelings but I still feel $35 is pretty steep for pizza, it makes me wonder if you are getting a good deal on the cost of the venue...
i thank you for writing back.
pizza was my food of choice. since i was planning it i figured i'd go with what i like to eat - and it's good, i've had it, and others agree it's good pizza. plus it's simpler than having a buffet with tons of different stuff, and having to worry about clean plates and 2 forks and all that hassle. we are going to have salad, snacks, and desserts (home baked) so don't feel like you're not going to get enough to eat.
the venue, price-wise, was equal to someplace like the knights of columbus or the elks. and it's cooler than those places cause there are pool tables and lots of space to move around. take the edge off the awkwardness maybe.
there are a lot of factors going into the cost, not just food and venue, like i mentioned, and susan will gladly show you the cost sheet if you would like. i think $60 for la notte PER PERSON would be steep, in my opinion. for that price, you can bring 2 to this reunion!
and just to further reiterate, we're not pulling a profit. there's no reunion planner. there's just 3 of us working hard to try to plan a great party. i'm just trying to end up not having to pay for things out of my own pocket. things come up at the end unexpectedly. we have to be ready for that.
that's just my 2 cents. if you can't afford it, or just plain don't want to come, it's OK. it's just a reunion, it's not the end of the world.

I thought you said there are 3 people...I count 4. Either way, they've doing a great job on trying to get all of us together.
you're right i should have said 4. i think of christina as an "adopted" helper...and she's great at finding out random stuff for us!
